Types Of Fences
Fences are great landscaping barriers that mark a property owner’s boundaries. That doesn’t mean that it cannot be useful, economical, environmentally durable, or pleasing to the eye. Choosing the right fencing can add enormous value to the property. It is always better to have some type of fencing than no fencing at all. There are many different types of fences to match differing needs.
Barbed Wire Fences
These are made of thick ropes of wire with short and very sharp pointed pieces jutting out at certain points along the wire. This type of fence may be used on a farm to keep livestock in and intruders out. This is considered to be a serious deterrent as to get near barbed wire will almost always guarantee cuts and scratches. It is consistently suggested that one must work with thick gloves and protective clothing when handling barbed wire. Most will still be left with some minor cuts and scratches. However, the protective gear will reduce the amount and severity of them. It is because of this feature that barbed wire is usually banned from use within suburban areas for private homes. Barbed wire is relatively inexpensive, yet durable.
Cedar Wood Fences
These are made from the aromatic wood of the cedar tree. This makes the cedar impervious to termite infestation. And this is a highly desirable aspect for home property. Cedar is considered to be the more attractive of all of the other fencing materials as it truly gives off a polished look to property. Cedar wood fences are the easiest to stain, which opens up color options. It is also a highly desirable wood material as it is environmentally durable. Cedar wood fences would be considered to be something of a luxury though as naturally occurring attributes bring the cost up.
Steel Fences
These are usually galvanized (zinc coating) for longevity and durability. They can also be painted and repainted. These fences are another attractive fencing option. The designs can be quite intricate and detailed because of the flexibility of the material. This gives properly owners many options for setting down a pleasing barrier. The cost can be moderate to high, depending on the detailing of the fencing being used on the property.
Aluminum Fences
These are very similar to steel fences in that these may be painted. The materials are much less expensive that steel fencing though. This makes for a more affordable, yet durable fencing option.
Iron Fences
These are made of wrought iron, which has been used for generations, giving a distinguished look to the property. Everyone loves the look and feel of an elaborate wrought iron fence. These classic fences are considered to be high-end and usually a bit more expensive.
Chain-link Fences
These fences are among the least expensive and really work towards establishing a perimeter. They are easy and fast to put up, and down, if necessary. The chain-link fence is probably the most common fence being used today.
PVC or Vinyl Fences
These fences are specially made with poly-vinyl chloride and can be treated with UV protectant, titanium dioxide. These are the most durable fences, as they do not require the same maintenance regimen as other types of fences available. They come in an assortment of colors and looks. They can even be made to look like wood. These fences are also quite affordable.
